  5. 1. Tips:
  6. =======
  7. 1) Discretion is the better part of valour:
  8. There's often so many monsters that your best strategy is to run through the
  9. crowded rooms hole up somewhere and wait for them to fight it out between
  10. themselves.
  11.  
  12. 2) A stitch in time saves nine:
  13. Save after every major contact unless your in poor shape - in which case revert
  14. to a previous game.
  15.  
  16. 3) Play fair:
  17. To get more life out of the game remember that theoretically you can play 
  18. through every level starting with the humble pistol no armour and 100% health.
  19. In theory....

  21. 4) The offside trap:
  22. One excellent strategy for dealing with full rooms is to open the door pop your
  23. head in then pull back out letting the door close. Often the beasts will emerge
  24. one at a time enabling you to pick them off.
  25.  
  26. 5) Do you really need that?:
  27. When their health is around the 85% mark many players prefer to save first aid
  28. kits for later. Also when in a radioactive ooze. Avoid collecting a suit until
  29. you start flashing. This will maximise your survival time.
  30.  
  31. 6) Boom!!!:
  32. Never switch to missiles in an enclosed area. They'll do you as much damage as
  33. your enemy.
  34.  
  35. 7) Walls have ears:
  36. Using weaponry makes noise and noise brings beasts running. So avoid 
  37. gratuitously firing rounds. You'll also want to conserve ammo especially on the
  38. Nightmare setting.
  39.  
  40. 8) You have ears:
  41. Counting the number of shouts or groans when blundering into a gang of beasts
  42. will help you to guess their numbers. Listen for hydraulic noises: an 
  43. unexpected whoosh means you have activated a hidden switch and opened a door or
  44. summoned a lift.

  46. 9) Tele-Frags:
  47. On the two-player game if an opponent makes a break for the teleport follow him.
  48. Hopefully you'll materialise over him and score a frag.
  49.  
  50. 10) Caught in a trap:
  51. When you find a key or megasphere in an empty room it may be an ambush. If 
  52. possible collect it running back towards the door. Exit before the trap is 
  53. sprung.

  55. How to kill the enemies:
  56. -----------------------
  57. Knight of Hell:
  58. These junior barons should be one of your lowest priorities until they get right
  59. up close to you. Then simply wipe them off the face of the planet with a plasma
  60. gun.
  61.  
  62. Pain Elemental:
  63. Chain gun these critters dead centre in the face. Hit them the moment they 
  64. appear and keep firing as they explode because they burst into these rather
  65. ugly heads.
  66.  
  67. Mancubus:
  68. The trick here is to stay far enough away to slip between their double missiles.
  69. A rapid fire weapon will hit them quickly enough to prevent any return of fire.
  70.  
  71. Arachnotrons:
  72. Hide. Then pop up and return fire with a rapid fire weapon. At close quarters
  73. if you have plenty to hide behind use the double barrel. Three shots should do
  74. the trick.
  75.  
  76. Heavy Weapons Dude:
  77. Always a thorny problem these guys will be felled with just one shotgun blast. 
  78. But you'll have to work particularly fast because they'll be firing at you 
  79. constantly.
  80.  
  81. Revenants:
  82. Keep well away from these. Best lured into corridors: out in the open the 
  83. missiles can chase you round corners. Use the super shotgun.
  84.  
  85. Archvile:
  86. The Archvile is most vunerable when he's resurrecting a corpse. You may only get
  87. one chance at him so now's the time to pull out the BFG.
  88.  
  89. 2. Cheats:
  90. =========
  91. Use like the cheats from Doom:
  92. iddt - Type this on the map screen several times to reveal all the objects and
  93. the full map. It will soon erase itself.
  94. iddqd - Degreeless mode toggle. Turns you into a god who cannot be hurt by 
  95. anything.
  96. idfa - Full ammo & 200% armour
  97. idkfa - Full ammo & 200% armour plus all keys
  98. idclip - No clipping. Able to walk through walls and experience hallucinations
  99. outside the playing area.
  100. idmypos - Prints your co-ordinates in hex - very useful!!???!!!
  101. idchoppers - Prints a 'Doesn't Suck' message then provides you with the chainsaw
  102. idclevXX - Warps you to level XX. XX=Value between 00 and 32
  103. idbehold - enables a cheat mode: follow with one of the following letters:
  104.                r Radiation suit
  105.                i Invisibility
  106.                v Invincibility
  107.                a Computer map
  108.                l Turn up the lights
  109.                s Beserker mode

  111. 3. How to defeat the last boss:
  112. ==============================
  113. Hit the skull switch straight away and stay on the top level until the Icon has
  114. stopped spitting monsters into the room. Clear the room level by level. Enter 
  115. the lava and push the tower to lower the lift. Get on it and fire your rockets
  116. into the exposed brain just before the lift reaches its highest point. Three
  117. shots should do it.
